Artist Profile: Toni Silber-Delerive

Enjoy artist Toni Silber-Delerive‘s delightful point of view, as she presents her portfolio and talks about taking advantage of opportunities.

"Open Field Cultivation" by Toni Silber-Delerive

ABI:  Please describe your artwork and signature style.

TSD: My aerialscapes represent places and spaces of our contemporary landscape seen from an above ground perspective. The flattened surface plane of each image reveals textures and unexpected abstract spaces. Depth becomes minimal and details are less predictable while retaining the essence of the subject.

"Manhattan Roof" by Toni Silber-Delerive

The thread running through my aerialscapes is our variegated planet seen from the air. Whether aboard a helicopter or standing at the top of a building, I’m always searching for images that reflect the world around me and have the potential to tell a story about their location or their relationship between man-made and natural, agrarian and industrial, labor and leisure. I cherish this approach for its many aspects and possibilities.

ABI:  How did your “aerial” viewpoint lead to a specialty show?

TSD:  An unabashed foodie, I’m a member of the James Beard foundation where “food themed” art is displayed in a gallery. Following my submission of up-close and above-view paintings of food, the foundation gave me a month-long solo show.

"Sushi" by Toni Silber-Delerive

With their oversized proportions and graphic interpretation, these paintings are an extension of my aerial perspective and provide an original, yet recognizable perspective.

ABI:  You have a solo show coming up. How are you planning for this event?

TSD:  The show will be for a month in Manhattan in September. I plan to use many existing paintings from my aerialscape portfolio, specifically 36” x 36” for continuity and create some additional paintings of the same size. I may include framed silkscreen additions and drawings. I always bring more work to see what the space can hold without being crowded.

The gallery and I plan to promote the show using our mailing lists and social media. I also have a list of sites that will announce the show e.g. ArtSlant, Art Cards and the Art Guide. A press release will be made available to specific media.
